Structure of the Department

The Hermitage Volunteer Fire Department is integrated into the City of Hermitage's Fire Marshal's Office which is responsible for enforcement of the City's Fire Code and administrative duties of the volunteer department.   

The Fire Marshal's Office consists of four members of the volunteer department who are employed by the City Monday - Friday during office hours. Apart from their City responsibilities they staff the station during hours which volunteers are typically scarce due to work.

Joining these four City employees are about 45 volunteers who possess various skill and certification levels which make them indispensable to the City and Department.

Chief / Fire Marshal John Flynn

Chief Flynn has been a member since 1992. Before serving as the Chief and Fire Marshal, Chief Flynn served as a Lieutenant for many years. Before taking on his position with the City, Chief Flynn ran a successful business. Apart from being a certified firefighter Chief Flynn holds the following qualifications:

  • Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator 
  • Certified Fire Inspector
  • Water Rescue Technician 
  • Dive Certified

Assistant Chief / Deputy Fire Marshal James Reda

Chief Reda has been a member since 1982 and has held his rank for many years. He has worked for the City since he was 18 years old . Apart from being a certified firefighter Chief Reda holds the following qualifications:

  • Certified Fire Instructor
  • State Suppression Instructor
  • Certified Fire Inspector
  • PA EMT-B


Deputy Chief David Vasconi

Chief Vasconi has been a member since 1976 and has held his rank for many years. He is a retired diesel mechanic and has handled our annual pump testing for years, saving our department thousands of dollars in testing. Chief Vasconi holds the following qualifications:

  • Certified Firefighter
  • Department Second Vice President 


Captain / Deputy Fire Marshal Lawrence "Casey" Clark

Captain Clark has been a member since 2016, returning to the department with about 5 years of prior service. Apart from being a certified firefighter Captain Clark holds the following qualifications:

  • Certified Fire Instructor
  • State Non-suppression Instructor
  • Certified Fire Inspector
  • PA EMT-B
  • PA-ST1 (US&R) Member
  • Department Treasurer 

Captain Thomas "TJ" Rollinson

Captain Rollinson has been a member since 1993, holding rank for many years. He is a contactor by day providing the department with a tremendus skill set during technical rescue operations. Apart from being a certified firefighter Captain Rollinson holds the following qualifications:

  • Water Rescue Technician
  • Dive Certified 
  • Department President since 1995

Lieutenant / Code Official Adam Prather

Lieutenant Prather has been a member since 2008. He received his promotion in 2017 and in 2023 became a code official posted in the fire station. Apart from being a certified firefighter Lieutenant Prather holds the following qualifications:

  • Certified Fire Inspector
  • Water Rescue Technician
  • Department Trustee

Lieutenant Thomas Redfoot

Lieutenant Redfoot has been a member since 1994 and has held his rank since 1997. He retired from a managerial position in his work life which equips him with great leadership skills inside of the department. 

  • Certified Firefighter
  • Department First Vice President 

Lieutenant Mike Wadlow

Lieutenant Wadlow has been a member since INSERT and even though he has only been with us a short time he brings tremendous experience. Lieutenant Wadlow came to us after being Chief of his prior department. In his work life Lieutenant Wadlow is head of maintenance for a large manufacturing corporation with a number of facilities.

  • Certified Firefighter
