Our volunteers are committed to serving our neighbors in their time of need. Could you imagine calling 911 and no one showing up? Pennsylvania is down to a third of the volunteers we had 50 years ago. There is a role for everyone!
These members receive training to prepare them for interior and/or exterior fire suppression operations. Not interested in fighting fire, we still need driver/operators for the apparatus.
Cadets, though limited, can still begin training on exterior fire fighting skills. This prepares them to complete their interior training as soon as they are old enough and provides experience.
These members assist with fire prevention activities, fundraising, and administrative/business activities.
These members volunteer/work at another agency that does not provide technical rescue capabilities. They can join in a limited capacity.
Fundraising is a critical part of our organization's efforts. We need volunteers to help plan and execute fundraising events.
Don't have time to volunteer? You can still support our organization by making a donation.
Please reach us at fdoffice@hermitage.net if you cannot find an answer to your question.
The membership meets on the second Monday of each month at which time new applications are read and as long as all requirements of the applicant are met, a vote takes place. Once voted in the new member will be considered probationary for a period of 1 year before they can move to active membership status.
A member will need to complete 202 hours of state certified instruction before they are considered an interior firefighter and can be primary on an attack line. Though a member can see fire conditions in training.
Operation of our apparatus and responding to emergencies sometimes is the most dangerous part of being a firefighter. A potential operator will have to have a clean driving history and have possessed their driver's license for at least 3 years an be at least 21 years old.
Though there is an annual membership fee of $5 dollars there are no other costs associated with membership. Remember that 202 hours of training we mentioned? All training is provided free of charge to the member. We also equip our members with quality gear, to the tune of about $6,000, at no cost to the member.
Many times the fire service, career and volunteer, is spoken of as a brotherhood. You will build bonds that last a lifetime with your fellow members. A sense of accomplishment after helping your neighbor at one of their worst moments, possibly even saving a life. If a career in firefighting is your goal, quality training at no cost to you. The benefits are countless.
