Our City

Hermitage, PA is a community full of variety. Major Northeastern and Midwestern U.S. cities and universities are just a short drive away, recreational facilities are abundant, the environment is protected and a high quality of life is available.  The City of Hermitage is a growing community and the atmosphere is small town/suburban with exceptional housing opportunities, recreational facilities and educational facilities.

Hermitage is nestled in western Pennsylvania midway between Pittsburgh, Erie, Chicago, and New York City, and at the juncture of Interstate 80, PA Routes 18 and 60, and U.S. Route 62.  This offers unique location advantages for business development and is indeed a great place to visit, live, work, and invest.

Unique outdoor recreational opportunities abound with hunting, fishing, and boating at Shenango River Lake, Goddard and Pymatuning State Parks and the PA Gamelands throughout the area. A one-hour drive to Erie, Akron, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland further affords residents and businesses access to major league sporting events, cultural activities, and entertainment opportunities. Hermitage is also home to Buhl Farm Park, a beautiful 380 acre recreational facility with an outdoor public pool, picnic areas, a free 9-hole golf course, tennis courts, exercise trails, playground areas, and much more.

The City of Hermitage is home to many unique stores and attractions:

Hermitage and Mercer County are known for great individual and family-oriented recreation. Three state parks and the Shenango River Lake provide fun and relaxing activities such as fishing, trail-hiking, biking, swimming, hunting, boating, and an overall place of beauty for picnics and play. There are over nine area campgrounds for overnight getaways. For the sports enthusiast, enjoy a minor league baseball game by watching the nearby Mahoning Valley Scrappers, an affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, or enjoy dirt track auto racing every Saturday from April to October at Mercer Raceway Park. Also come and enjoy unique aspects of the county such as skydiving and air gliding, animal parks, and much, much more.

This photograph shows an overall view of the City from its highest point.  Left of center, one can see East State Street come into the picture as it leads into the center of the City.  Almost directly in the center of the picture are the First National Bank towers.  The largest one, visable as a tall stone building with green glass windows, sits directly in the center of the City at the intersection of East State Street and North Hermitage Road.  One can get a great overall view of the City from the hill where this photograph was taken.

The main business corridor of Hermitage is East State Street, known in the area as "The Strip."  This section of roadway transects the City dividing it into northern and southern halves.  A vast majority of the businesses in Hermitage are on this section of roadway.  From car dealerships and grocery stores to the Hermitage Towne Plaza, the area is filled with stores for everyone.  The Shenango Valley Mall is also located on this roadway.

State Route 18, the second main traffic cooridor through the City, splits the City into eastern and western halves.  This section of roadway stretches nearly ten miles through the middle of the City and is referred to as North Hermitage Road.  Several major businesses as well as many small businesses are located on this roadway, as well as the Hermitage School District complex and Army National Guard Armory.  There are not nearly as many businesses on this stretch of roadway as there are on East State Street, but is is just as vital to traffic flow through the area.
