Welcome!

As the sole source of fire protection in the City of Hermitage, we take pride in serving our citizens well. We work hard to maintain a modern, technologically advanced fleet of fire apparatus to meet any and all needs that may arise. Operating from three stations, we cover approximately 40 square miles of first-due area with twenty apparatus and thirty active, Pennsylvania state certified fire fighters, EMTs, instructors, and investigators. We hope you find this site informative and easy to use. Suggestions can be directed to the Webmaster from the Contact Us page.

Can we find you in an emergency?

Clearly posted house numbers can save precious time should an emergency occur.   Response time is crucial; seconds lost can mean the difference between life and death.  Residents and property owners are reminded to make sure their property number is clearly visible from the street so that unnecessary delays for emergency services do not occur.  Many residents overlook the fact that ordinary street numbers attached to the front of a house are often impossible to see at night. This is true regardless of the season, but it becomes particularly critical in the Winter.  When daylight hours get shorter, and there is fog, rain or snow, locating a poorly marked residence from the street becomes much more difficult.  While we have tools available such as GPS’s, the street number helps us zero in on a house faster.

Before We Can Help You, We Have to Find You.      Help Us

The following are some tips to help you determine whether your street address is properly posted:

  • Go to the street in front of your structure. Can your street number be easily read from this distance?
  •
Is your street number obscured by the delivery flag on your mailbox, trees, shrubs, plants, porch eaves, awnings, lawn ornaments, or other novelty decorations?
  • The recommended minimum size for visibility of each street number is at least four (4) inches high and one-half (1/2) inch wide.  Are yours?
  • Is your street number on both sides of your mail box?
  • If your mailbox and your home are on opposite sides of the street, consider adding a reflective arrow pointing toward your house?

The City of Hermitage requires all residential dwellings…to post their street number in a visible manner on their structure, as well as their mailbox. See the city web site (Ordinance No. 4-2006).  If you do not have an assigned street number please contact the city building to have one assigned.

Check the Safety Information page for more tips on how to be safe all year long!

***REMEMBER - we could be responding to YOUR home or business.  When you see apparatus responding with lights and sirens, pull to the right side of the roadway and STOP to allow the fire fighters to safely pass!
