On Tuesday March 20, 2018 at approximately 6:04pm Hermitage-Patagonia Fire Departments received an alarm for a working fire in a multi family apartment building with multiple people trapped. Fire Department on scene found a 2 story 16 unit apartment building with heavy fire showing from the first floor, second floor and attic on the front side of the building with multiple occupants trapped on the second floor balconies. OIC requested a 3rd alarm. Fire crews with assistants from PD rescued all occupants from the front and back sides of the structure while aggressively attacking the fire with “fast water”, which knocked down the fire on the 1st and 2nd floors and attic area. Fire crews did first and secondary searches with negative results while crews continued to extinguish hot spots and overhaul. EMS staging area was set-up and a family reunification center was opened at New Virginia Church. 3 people were sent to the hospital, 2 with smoke inhalation and 1 with minor burns. The fire resources were 13 departments, 8 ambulances, Hermitage Police Department, Mercer County EMA, and the American Red Cross. The fire displaced 19 occupants.
